It’s very late at night. There’s a busy city humming behind me, and my mind is going a million miles an hour.
I know I’m far from the only one who worries, overthinks, and then overthinks the overthinking. I like to say I come from a long line of worriers. It’s practically the family business. That’s why I constantly have to remind myself that worry isn’t something we’re required to carry.
The Bible speaks right to this in Matthew 6:34: “Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
When I hear that tomorrow will worry about itself, my honest reaction is: it’s about time. I’m tired. I’m tired of worrying about it. Let tomorrow pick up the slack for once.
Here’s what I keep coming back to. There are things we can do, and we should do them. But most of what keeps us up at night is out of our hands. Scripture doesn’t hedge on this. It says flat out, don’t worry about tomorrow.
So here’s my encouragement for you today: if you can’t get past today, don’t grab on to tomorrow. Take today as it comes, and leave tomorrow to handle itself.
As always, I hope that helps. Until next time, take care and God bless.
